As the offseason continues and players begin to make decisions on their destinations for the 2024 season, per El Nuevo Dia, the New York Mets signed free agent right-handed pitcher Jorge Lopez to a one-year contract on Thursday.

Jeff Passan of ESPN reports that the deal is for $2 million.

Lopez drafted in the second round of the 2011 MLB draft by the Milwaukee Brewers out of Caguas Military Academy in Gurabo Puerto Rico. He made his Major League debut in 2015.

Lopez made his way around the league in 2022 and 2023. In 2022, he split time between the Baltimore Orioles and Minnesota Twins. In 2023, he played for three different times, spending time again with the Twins, Miami Marlins, and finished out the season back with the Baltimore Orioles.

In 2022, he was an All-Star for Baltimore. He was traded to the Twins at the deadline and pitched to a 2.54 ERA overall on the year.

Lopez struggled in 2023. Accumulated between Minnesota, Miami, and Baltimore in 2023, the 30-year old was 6-2 with a 5.95 ERA. Over the course of 59 innings pitched, he gave up 39 earned runs on 42 hits and struck out 49. He finished the season with a 1.51 WHIP.

David Stearns continues his early offseason trend of adding depth to the bullpen.
