The New York Post’s Bart Hubbuch announced today on Twitter that the Mets have signed career minor leaguer Adam Pettyjohn to a minor-league deal and have assigned him to the Buffalo Bisons.
Nothing too interesting here as Pettyjohn has been ineffective throughout his big league career. I get the sense that this move was made to fill a gap in Buffalo’s rotation that was vacated by former Met Brandon Knight, who recently left the team to pitch in Korea.
At one time Pettyjohn was considered a relatively top prospect with the Tigers, however he never really panned out. Last season with the Reds he allowed a whopping 11 hits and 9 runs in only four innings pitched.
However as the Daily News’ Andrew McCarron points out, Pettyjohn led the International League last season in wins with 15.
This doesn’t appear to be a significant signing, and I wouldn’t expect to see Pettyjohn pitch at all at the Major League level.
