According to the New York Mets on Twitter, the team has agreed to a one-year deal with outfielder Jose Bautista.

In a corresponding move, the Mets have optioned infielder Phillip Evans to Triple-A Las Vegas.

Bautista, 37, had a short trial with the Atlanta Braves this year, but hit just .143/.250/.343 in 40 plate appearances.

Last year with the Toronto Blue Jays, he hit .203/.308/.366 over the span of 157 games.

The Mets will hope to catch lightning in a bottle with the former All-Star. At the very least, he will give them a right-handed hitting option off the bench who can also slot into the outfield or third base in a pinch.

As for Evans, the 25-year-old went 1-for-8 in his short stints with the Mets this season.

Bautista will wear No. 11 and be available for tonight’s ballgame.
