St. Louis Cardinals v Pittsburgh PiratesAccording to Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports, the Mets and free-agent, right-handed reliever D.J. Carrasco have agreed to a two-year deal,

Carrasco, was 3-2 with a 3.68 ERA and .239 batting average against last season for Pittsburgh and Arizona. He held right-handed hitters to a .228 batting average, while left-handed batters hit .260 against him.

Carrasco, 34 in April, is very durable and a workhorse in the bullpen, but it’s still surprising he received a guaranteed two year deal.

Adam Rubin reports the deals is for $2.5 million dollars.

Here are his career marks:

4.31 ERA  –  1.44 WHIP  –  3.7 BB/9  –  5.8 K/9  –  1.56 K/BB  –  GB/FB 1.75  –  ERA+ 106  –  BABIP .380

Not sure if this signing ends the Mets interest in Chad Qualls, another right-hander, with a pen that now features Carrasco, K-Rod, Parnell, Igarashi and Acosta. It may be time to shift focus to a left-handed reliever.
