The New York Mets have made another addition this weekend, coming to an agreement with right-hander Adam Ottavino on a one-year deal. Joel Sherman of the NY Post was first on the pact which is worth $4 million.

MMO’s own Mike Mayer first mentioned that Ottavino was amongst the relievers on the Mets’ radar last night.

Ottavino, a New York native, spent last season in the Boston Red Sox bullpen. While he did struggle a bit, he actually pitched better than his 4.21 ERA shows. The right-hander finished in the 90th percentile or better in exit velocity, hard-hit percentage, and barrel percentage.

His nasty slider is his best and most effective pitch, as he threw it 46% of the time and generated a 27.6% whiff percentage with it. He struggles with the walks a bit (13% walk rate) but makes up for it with a solid strikeout rate.

Ottavino has reached the postseason each of the past four seasons with the Red Sox, Yankees, and Rockies. The 36-year old is a solid veteran addition to this Mets bullpen that already contains Edwin Diaz, Seth Lugo, Trevor May, and Miguel Castro.

You have to figure they will now look to add a lefty to the mix such as Andrew Chafin or Brad Hand. Steve Cohen said this morning in Port St. Lucie that he expects the team to make a few more moves and to go over the $290M threshold.

I’m sure we’ll see what Billy Eppler and company have up their sleeve soon enough, keep it peeled to MMO for the latest.
