According to Jon Morosi of MLB Network on Twitter, the Mets are among several teams showing interest in Rays’ INF/OF Steve Pearce.
Pearce, 33, is having a fantastic year in his first season with the Rays, hitting at a .309/.388/.520 clip in 60 games for Tampa Bay.
Pearce could be a valuable asset for the Mets for the final two months of the season, as he is a very versatile player, who can play first base, second base and all three outfield positions.
A couple days ago, however, Jerry Crasnick of ESPN.com tweeted that while the Mets like Pearce, the Rays are asking for a decent sized return which the Mets may be unwilling to do.
Pearce is a career .255/.344/.442 hitter in his ten year career.
