Jon Heyman of Fancred reports that the Mets are “kicking the tires” on A.J. Pollock to make him the team’s new center fielder for the team in 2019.

However, Heyman says that if the team fails to acquire the center fielder that they might look for a compliment to Juan Lagares, who is currently slated to be the Opening Day centerfielder.

Lagares, 29, played in 30 games before going down with a broken toe which caused him to miss the remainder of the season.

Pollock, 31, hit .257/.316/.484 with 21 home runs and 65 RBI which gave him a 110 wRC+ and 2.5 fWAR in 2018.

Heyman also notes that the Mets are discussing a lot of different things at the moment, but cautions that it is “impossible to describe anything as promising” right now.
