Some of the big-name starting pitchers have already signed new contracts, and with that area being a need for the New York Mets, it appears they are beginning to nail down some of their favorite options. Mike Mayer of Metsmerized reported on Wednesday that the team has interest in left-handed starter Eduardo Rodríguez.

The 30-year-old spent each of the last two seasons with the Detroit Tigers, and he pitched to a career-best 3.30 ERA in 152 2/3 innings last season.

Rodríguez signed a five-year, $77 million contract with the Tigers in November of 2021, but after just two years of that deal, the former Boston Red Sox chose to opt-out. He had an opportunity to go to the Los Angeles Dodgers just days before the trade deadline in July of 2023, but he used his 10-team no-trade clause in order to stop the deal from going through.

Aaron Nola and Sonny Gray headline a group of starters that have already signed contracts this off-season. Blake Snell, Jordan Montgomery, Yoshinobu Yamamoto and Rodríguez should draw quite a bit of attention over the next few weeks. The Mets would look to add a No. 1 or No. 2 starting pitcher to lead a rotation that already includes Kodai Senga and José Quintana.

The Mets did add some depth to their rotation on Wednesday when they signed Luis Severino.
