Per Jon Morosi of MLB Network, the Mets have shown interest in right-handed reliever Adam Ottavino, who is currently a free agent.

While the Mets would probably prefer a lefty and are still looking at Andrew Miller, Ottavino would be a very nice addition to bolster the bullpen as a strong setup man for closer Edwin Diaz.

Ottavino, 33, had a career year in 2018, posting a 2.43 ERA and 12.98 K/9. However, his inconsistent track record is not nearly as impressive as that of Miller’s and some of the other free agent relief options. Still, when Ottavino is on, he’s one of the nastiest pitchers in baseball.

Additionally, Morosi noted that the Red Sox have also shown interest. The Red Sox would make a lot of sense as well, as they are in need of a closer with Craig Kimbrel now on the free agent market.

It will be interesting to see which path the Mets end up taking in their quest to upgrade the bullpen.
