Anthony Dicomo of MLB.com reports that the Mets are shopping around Juan Lagares at the Winter Meetings.
Dicomo notes that this report comes out during the same week that Brodie Van Wagenen said the Mets are “counting on” Lagares next season.
Lagares, 29, only appeared in 30 games last season as he broke his toe in May and missed the remainder of the season as a result. Before going down, Lagares had a slash line of .339/.375/.390 and a wRC+ of 112 in 64 at-bats.
In the field, Lagares had already recorded five defensive runs saved in only 128 1/3 innings. He has recorded 84 defensive runs saved in the outfield since 2013.
The center fielder could become redundant, though, as Dicomo points out that the team is looking for a right-handed hitting center fielder, with A.J. Pollock being one the Mets have highly connected to.
Lagares is due $9 million in 2019 and then has a $9.5 million team option for the 2020 season, after which he will become a free agent for the first time in his career.
