The Mets have selected right-handed pitcher Erasmo Ramirez, according to Justin Toscano of The Record.

Seeing that Ramirez is not on the 40-man roster, the Mets will have to make a corresponding 40-man move later this afternoon to make room for him. They will have to either place someone on the 45-day IL, outright someone, or release some (h/t Jacob Resnick of MMO).

There are a few possibilities of who the move could be, such as Patrick Mazeika or even Robert Gsellman, who the Mets are reportedly removing from the rotation before fully stretching him out, according to Anthony DiComo of MLB.

Ramirez pitched well in four games for the Mets in spring training, allowing just one run in eight innings while striking out 10.

The 30-year-old has experience both starting and relieving in his career, with a lifetime 4.40 ERA.

In the corresponding move that was announced later, the Mets designated Billy Hamilton for assignment, per DiComo of MLB.

Hamilton went just 1-for-22 with the Mets and made two baserunning blunders after the Mets traded pitching prospect Jordan Humphreys for him.
