According to the Mets transaction log, they’ve selected the contract of lefty Chasen Shreve and designated right-hander Jordan Yamamoto for assignment. The Mets 40-man roster remains full.

Shreve, 31, impressed in Mets camp with four scoreless and hitless innings with six strikeouts after signing a minor league deal earlier in the offseason.

Shreve is returning to the Mets after a stint with the team in 2020 and spending 2021 with the Pirates. In his time in Pittsburgh, he notched a 3.20 ERA over the course of 56.1 innings.

In 2020 with the Mets, Shreve had a 3.96 ERA over 25 innings. He struck out 34 batters for a K/9 of 12.2. He began his career in Atlanta and has pitched for the Yankees and Cardinals as well.

Shreve and the recently acquired Joely Rodriguez will try to team up to replace the left-handed production that Aaron Loup provided in 2021. Loup left via free agency to sign with the Angels.

The rest of the Mets bullpen locks are Edwin Diaz, Trevor May, Drew Smith, Seth Lugo, and Adam Ottavino. Right-handers Sean Reid-Foley and Trevor Williams are likely going to make the bullpen as well.

Yamamoto, 25, was the Mets first cut of big league camp this year after showing decreased velocity in a sim game. The former Marlin allowed three runs in six innings with the Mets last season. He was acquired last offseason when the Mets claimed him off waivers.
