Adam Rubin of ESPN New York, reminds us that Mets 2010 first-round pick Matt Harvey has yet to agree to a contract and that time is running out.

The Mets and first-round pick Matt Harvey, a right-hander from the University of North Carolina, have yet to reach agreement on a signing bonus. A team official indicated the negotiations likely will go to the midnight deadline Monday night/Tuesday morning.

With Scott Boras representing Harvey, I don’t believe it’s a surprise that negotiations will go down to the wire. That’s kind of become his modus operandi over the years.

The Mets have several Scott Boras clients and chief among them are lefthander Oliver Perez, center fielder Carlos Beltran and right hander Mike Pelfrey who becomes arbitration eligible after this season.

While many teams shy away from Boras clients, the Mets have had no fear in overpaying his clients and then worrying about the consequences later.

I have no doubt that Matt Harvey will sign before the deadline, but I expect it will be for a huge bonus that will force the Mets to rush him to the majors within a year as they did with Mike Pelfrey five years ago.
