The New York Mets announced several roster moves prior to Game 1 of their doubleheader on Sunday. There are also a few more moves that are expected to happen, but have not quite been announced yet.
The Mets, themselves, announced the following:
- RHP Blade Tidwell was recalled from Triple-A. He will wear No. 40.
- LHP Danny Young was transferred to the 60-day injured list.
- RHP Austin Warren is set to be the 27th man for both doubleheader games.

As for the other two moves, according to manager Carlos Mendoza, Young was recommended surgery for his injury. Will Sammon of the Athletic later confirmed that he is expected to undergo Tommy John surgery.
The left-handed Young had a 4.32 ERA across 8 1/3 innings to go along with 13 strikeouts prior to his injury. Young held left-handed hitters to a .620 OPS against. With both he and A.J. Minter going down, Génesis Cabrera is the lone left-handed pitcher left in the Mets’ bullpen. The 31-year-old Young is set to be a free agent at the season’s end.
Meanwhile, the 29-year-old Austin Warren has pitched 10 1/3 innings with Triple-A Syracuse. He has a 4.35 ERA and 14 strikeouts. However, he has walked nine and allowed 10 hits thus far. Warren pitched in the big leagues last year, working 10 2/3 innings with San Francisco (1.69 ERA, 4.48 FIP). He has a career 3.14 ERA across 48 2/3 major league innings spanning from 2021 through 2024. When he pitched with San Francisco in 2024, Warren featured a four-pitch mix, predominately throwing a slider (39.3% of the time) with a sinker (27.7%), four-seam fastball (20.2%), and cutter (12.7%).
One last move that the Mets are expected to make after the game is recalling right-handed reliever Dedniel Núñez, first reported by Mike Puma of the NY Post. Núñez is expected to be recalled prior to Game 2 in exchange for Game 1’s starter Tidwell.
Núñez was electric prior to injury in 2024, posting a 2.31 ERA and 48 strikeouts across 35 innings. His 2.39 xERA and 2.22 FIP further illustrated how strong he was in 2024. Núñez then suffered a right pronator strain and missed the reminder of the season.
The 28-year-old began the season with Triple-A Syracuse, and it was a little rocky. However, he has his ERA down to 3.48 across 10 1/3 innings. However, the walk rate is high (seven) and he has allowed 14 hits. It’ll be interesting to see if he regains any sense of the form he was in with New York in 2024.
