The New York Mets announced Sunday that they have agreed to a minor-league deal, with an invite to spring training, with right-handed reliever Chad Smith.

Smith, 28 years old, has two short major-league stints under his belt. He spent a combined 31 2/3 innings with Colorado and Oakland in 2022 and 2023, respectively. Across that time, he’s posted a 7.11 ERA to go along with 32 strikeouts and a staggering 22 walks.

Since 2021, Smith has spent a majority of his time in Triple-A. He has a career 4.54 ERA across 103 Triple-A innings. He’s struck out 119 hitters and walked 60 over that time. Across all minor-league levels in his career he has a 4.49 ERA in 252 1/3 innings.

Last season, Smith featured a sinker, slider, and changeup. His sinker averaged 94.9 mph while his other two pitches were below 90 mph.

Smith joins Cole Sulser and Cam Robinson as other relievers the Mets have signed to minor-league deal with spring training invites this offseason.
