On Thursday evening, Mets general manager, Brodie Van Wagenen, was caught on a hot mic earlier today criticizing Rob Manfred’s handling of the league wide protests that are going around Major League Baseball. Here is the video in case you missed it earlier:
Holy shit Rob Manfred is trying to force the Mets to pull a social justice awareness stunt tonight by having the players symbolically leave the field at 7:10 before returning an hour later to play at 8:10 even though the players don’t want to play tonight pic.twitter.com/4BJLaPUkoy

Brodie Van Wagenen then released a statement saying that he misspoke and that the order came from Jeff Wilpon, not Rob Manfred. Rob Manfred released his own statement that denied any and all claims that he tried asking the Mets to return to the field one hour after walking off the field. Here’s that statement:

And just in case you didn’t think we had enough statements, moments ago the Mets released their own statements from Jeff Wilpon and Fred Wilpon. Fred Wilpon called Brodie’s comments “disrespectful and inaccurate.” Jeff Wilpon said “Brody’s misunderstanding of a private conversation was and is inexcusable.” No that is not a typo. Jeff Wilpon and Fred Wilpon both referred to Brodie as Brody in their press release. Here is their full statement for your own perusing:

There might still be more fallout from this whole fiasco regarding Brodie’s hot mic. A lot of finger pointing seems to be going around between Brodie, Rob Manfred, and the Wilpons. But in other news, final bids for the Mets are due on 8/31.
