According to Matt Ehalt of The Record, the Mets recently sent a scout to watch free agent left-hander Kevin Siegrist pitch.
Siegrist, 28, spent the 2017 season between the St. Louis Cardinals and Philadelphia Phillies, logging a 4.81 ERA in 39.1 innings pitched.
Between 2015 and 2016, Siegrist was an effective reliever out of the Cardinals bullpen, pitching to a 2.17 and 2.77 ERA, respectively.
In his career, he has held right-handed hitters to a .194/.276/.349 clip (111-for-573), while pitching to a .229/.344/.357 (72-for-314) slash line against lefties.
The Mets currently have just one left-handed reliever on their 40-man roster in Jerry Blevins. They also have non-roster southpaw Matt Purke in camp. Needless to say, it wouldn’t hurt to add another lefty into the fold.
