The New York Mets announced that they have recalled LH reliever Sean Gilmartin after Wednesday night’s 8-1 loss to the Cardinals, and optioned RH reliever Erik Goeddel back to Triple-A Las Vegas.

Goeddel, 27, had just been activated before tonight’s game after the Mets placed Jon Niese was placed on the DL. But his stay was short-lived after he allowed two runs in 1 2/3 innings on Wednesday against the Cardinals. He has a 4.55 ERA in 29 relief appearances for the Mets this season.

Gilmartin, 26, had a rough showing for the Mets earlier this season, having allowed seven runs on 11 hits and three walks in nine relief innings. He currently has a 4.86 ERA and 1.43 WHIP in in 18 starts for Triple-A Las Vegas this season.

The Mets bullpen has had to pitch 12.0 innings of relief over the last two games.
