The Mets have decided, with a doubleheader tomorrow, to send down Chris Flexen and recall a fresh arm in the form of P.J. Conlon., according to Tim Britton of The Athletic.

Flexen almost certainly would have been unavailable for either game after throwing 57 pitches in yesterday’s game against the Milwaukee Brewers.

On top of it, he was pretty dreadful as he allowed seven runs (three earned) and eight hits in two innings of work.

Mickey Callaway has hinted that the team plans to use a bullpen game tomorrow against the Atlanta Braves for one of the two games.

Seth Lugo and Robert Gsellman would pitch first before transitioning to someone else, with Callaway saying yesterday that Flexen was an ideal candidate to be that guy.

WIth Flexen being optioned, Conlon will likely just take on the same role, with the lefty being in good shape to pitch multiple innings after having not pitched since May 22, which provides him with a normal amount of rest for a starter.

Conlon made one start, his MLB debut, for the Mets on May 7 against the Cincinnati Reds, in which he allowed three runs, four hits, and two walks to go along with one strikeout in 3 2/3 innings.
