The Mets recalled Nick Plummer from Triple-A Syracuse and sent the struggling Yoan López down to Triple-A, they announced Saturday afternoon.

In light of Travis Jankowski being placed on the 10-day IL with a left fourth metacarpal fracture, the team is in need of a new outfielder to replace him, with Brandon Nimmo having a sore wrist, and Plummer’s been performing well in Syracuse to start the year.

Across 24-games in AAA, Plummer as 22 hits, 12 runs scored, six home runs and 22 RBIs, to go along with an .825 OPS. Plummer signed with the Mets during the offseason on November 24 after the St. Louis Cardinals declined to add the 2015 first-round pick to their 40-man roster. Plummer still has a lot of potential at age 25, following multiple wrist injuries early on his professional career.

López struggled in two games for the Mets, posting a 9.00 ERA in three innings of work while giving up three earned runs, five hits and four strikeouts. The right-hander has been better in Syracuse this year, posting a 3.72 ERA with 13 strikeouts in 9 2/3 innings of work in nine games.

Jankowski has just a .501 OPS with the Mets this year, but he’s provided some value on the base paths. Plummer will need to rise up as the Mets look to get production out of the former 23rd overall draft pick.
