The New York Mets announced that they have recalled right-hander Chris Mazza from Triple-A Syracuse and designated right-hander Wilmer Font for assignment.

Font, 29, was acquired by the Mets in an early May trade with the Tamp Bay Rays in return for minor league right-hander Neraldo Catalina, who recently made his pro debut with the Rays’ GCL affiliate.

Font has bounced around the majors since debuting in 2012, spending time with the Texas Rangers, Los Angeles Dodgers and Oakland Athletics before landing with the Rays in 2018. He leaves the Mets with a 4.94 ERA and 1.355 WHIP in 15 appearances including three starts.

Mazza, also 29, was selected in the 27th round of the 2011 MLB Draft and debuted with the Mets  last month, making one start before being sent back down to Syracuse. He allowed one run in four innings of work and struck out two batters.

Our own Michael Mayer recently interviewed Chris Mazza a couple of weeks ago and you can read his interview here.
