With catcher Devin Mesoraco ailing from a bulging disk, the Mets have brought in some catching reinforcements in the form of Jose Lobaton according to Tim Healey of Newsday.
In a corresponding move, the Mets have transferred pitcher Bobby Wahl to the 60-day disabled list to free up a 40-man roster spot for Lobaton.
The 33-year-old had a stint in the bigs earlier this year when both Kevin Plawecki and Travis d’Arnaud were sidelined, but hit just .152/.264/.239 in 19 games.
With Lobaton back, the Mets will now carry three catchers: Plawecki and Tomas Nido comprising the other two.
Lobaton is a nine year veteran who has spent the majority of his career with Washington and Tampa Bay.
