Mets No. 2 prospect Brett Baty has been officially promoted and will make his major league debut on Wednesday.

Baty will bat eighth and play third base.

The 22-year-old will wear No. 22 with the Mets.

In order to make room for Baty on the active roster the Mets placed Eduardo Escobar on the 10-day IL. Escobar was suffering from oblique soreness and was unable to swing from the right side of the plate. Additionally, they recalled left-handed pitcher Sam Clay and designated R.J. Alvarez for assignment.

Baty excelled in the minors this season. In 89 games for Double-A Binghamton, Baty hit 19 home runs, 22 doubles, and drove in 59 baserunners. He had career highs in batting average, on-base percentage, and slugging.

Baty was promoted to Triple-A Syracuse and garnered 22 at-bats before getting the call to the major leagues.

The Mets originally selected Baty as a 19-year-old out of Lake Travis High School with the No. 12 pick in the 2019 MLB Draft. The highly touted prospect’s debut is exciting but his new Mets teammates want him to just play ball.

“We don’t expect you to be a savior of this team or anything,” Brandon Nimmo said. “Just play the game, have fun, enjoy this, and if you happen to get some hits while you are here, great.”
