Jeff Wilpon and Brodie Van Wagenen spoke about the possibility of a Jacob deGrom extension today while on Mike Francesa’s show.

While the two did not give any specifics, Wilpon said this on the matter.

“I’m sure there will be an offer. How long-term that is, that’s up to us to figure out.” Van Wagenen then went on to say that “the goal will be to extend that relationship.”

DeGrom, 30, is coming off a Cy Young season which certainly means he won’t come cheap for the Mets. In 2018, he went 10-9 with a 1.71 ERA, 0.91 WHIP, and 269 strikeouts in 217 innings to give himself a 10.0 bWAR.

The right-hander has two years of control left at which point he will become a free agent after the 2020 season. DeGrom is entering his third year of arbitration this offseason.
