The New York Mets announced pregame on Tuesday afternoon that catcher Tomas Nido has been placed back on the injured list, retroactive to August 28, with a left thumb sprain. This is the same injury that left him sidelined earlier this month.

Nido returned from the injured list for Friday night’s game, and went 1-for-2 in the 2-1 loss to the Washington Nationals. The backstop received the day off on Saturday, and then remained on the bench due to the thumb soreness on Sunday.

The injury appears to still be bothering him enough, and he was officially been placed back on the IL this afternoon.

In a corresponding roster move, catcher Chance Sisco has been recalled from Triple-A Syracuse. Sisco has appeared in just four games at the big league level this season, and his lone hit is a pinch-hit RBI double against the San Francisco Giants.

With Nido returning to the IL and James McCann still not close to returning, Patrick Mazeika and Sisco will handle the catching duties moving forward.
