The Mets have officially designated right-handed reliever Jorge López for assignment. The Mets have recalled left-handed reliever Danny Young from Triple-A Syracuse.

Mets manager Carlos Mendoza said that the actions by López were over the line. “When you’re not playing well, guys will show emotions. There are frustrations, but there’s a fine line. Yesterday, he went over the line. We’re not going to tolerate that.”

The New York Mets are in the midst of a nightmare season. On Wednesday afternoon, during the team’s latest 10-3 loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers and getting swept again this season, things took another turn.

During the top of the 8th inning that saw a tie 3-3 game turn into a Dodgers blowout, reliever Jorge López argued a check swing call to third base umpire Ramon De Jesus and was immediately ejected from the game. As López walked back to the dugout, he tossed his glove into the stands. Manager Carlos Mendoza said his pitcher’s actions were “not acceptable” and they would be addressed internally.

In the clubhouse, things got even more interesting. Just after the Mets had a team meeting, López spoke to the press and told them he didn’t regret throwing his glove in a profanity-laced tirade.

Minutes after he made his comments, multiple reporters said that the Mets designated López for assignment.

López pitched to a 3.76 ERA this season with the Mets in 28 games. He allowed 25 hits, 11 earned runs, 20 strikeouts, and 11 walks in 26.1 innings pitched. David Stearns signed him back in December, and he became the latest Stearns offseason players not to make it to the entire season. Joining Michael Tonkin, Joey Wendle, and Zack Short

Between a game where the Mets had a chance and lost it, again. To López’s ejection, throwing his glove, and postgame comments. As well as a team meeting. This was another day in a season falling further down the rabbit hole.
