Mets manager Terry Collins had some positive news regarding injury updates for his sidelined players.

Eric Young Jr. will likely be held out of Grapefruit League games this weekend. Young, who is nursing a sore side muscle, hit off a tee on Thursday and should be good to go on Monday.

“I asked about Saturday. They actually want to see him on a field a couple of days before we put him in a game. So Sunday would be the earliest, probably. And, if not, Monday or Tuesday.”

Veteran righthander Bartolo Colon, who is out with a strained calf, should resume tossing a baseball on Friday.

“He’s doing all his stuff inside. He’s riding the bikes. We just don’t want him running. He’s going to throw tomorrow, I think. Dan [Warthen] is going to try to do something with him to make sure we don’t strain the calf too bad. But everything’s fine.”

The big news is that lefthander Jon Niese will resume throwing in a couple of days after getting a clean bill of health from doctors who said the MRI on his shoulder was clean and showed no damage.

“Usually when our guys have gone up to get looked at, they’ve come back with bad news,” Niese told Marty Noble at MLB.com. “I’m happy I’ve given people some peace of mind. Dr. Altchek told me not to pitch, but I can throw for a few days and then get back to my normal routine.”

Niese could start throwing again on Saturday.
