As the Mets continue to make a strong push to re-sign second baseman Luis Castillo, their negotiations may have just turned into a bidding war for his services.

Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports is reporting that the Houston Astros are also in hot pursuit of the gold glove, second baseman and view him as the heir apparent to the recently retired Craig Biggio.

Luis Castillo is by far the best second baseman available in this years free agent class. He is a lifetime .300 hitter with speed, and is one of the top defenders at the position in the game. At age 32, he still has plenty of baseball left in him. He recently underwent a scope on his right knee to clean it up so that he can resume his career with renewed health.

I hope the Mets will lock him up while they still have exclusive negotiating rights until November 14th. After that, any team can discuss financial terms with Castillo.

Come on Omar, you can do it!
