torii hunter

In a report for ESPN Insider, Buster Olney listed outfielders Torii Hunter and Jonny Gomes among ten of the best bargains in this year’s free agent market.

Jon Heyman reported that there are seven teams that have serious interest in Hunter, but according to Newsday’s Marc Carig, the Mets are not one of them.

Hunter, 39, batted .286/.319/.446 with 17 home runs and 83 RBI and an OPS+ of 111 over 142 games this season.

His first choice is to remain with the Tigers, but if that doesn’t happen, Hunter has said he’d look to sign with a postseason contender. He recently made headlines with his political ads against gay marriage during this past election cycle.
