David Lennon of Newsday is reporting that Ken Takahashi may not be a sure thing to start on Friday as was first reported by Omar Minaya and Jerry Manuel.

Lennon writes,

It looks like the Mets may have changed their minds on starting Ken Takahashi for Friday’s game against the Pirates. Takahashi did not throw his scheduled side session today and was cryptic in his conversation with reporters afterward. General manager Omar Minaya also was elusive on the subject.

When asked if Takahashi was his Friday starter, Minaya replied, “Right now. But that could change.” When pitching coach Dan Warthen was asked the same question, his only response was “Talk to Jerry [Manuel].”

Manuel was not available an hour before tonight’s first pitch, but the Mets could make an announcement about the rotation after the game.

It sounds like Manuel wasn’t sold on the whole Ken Takahashi idea in the first place.
