Injuries are an expected part of major league baseball and the Mets have had more than their fair share of them during the 2022 season.

Having a star player injured can test a team’s resiliency and give young players a chance to prove themselves. Too many top players on the injured list, however, can set a team back severely.

A team’s injured list is one of the major things that oddsmakers consider when they’re setting MLB odds. You should always take a team’s injuries into consideration when betting.

Here are a couple of injury updates as the New York Mets wrap up their three game set against the Los Angeles Dodgers this afternoon.

Anthony DiComo of MLB.com is reporting that infielder Luis Guillorme could begin a rehab assignment as soon as this Sunday.

The slick fielding Guillorme has been doing some infield drills on the field and also ran the bases on Wednesday.

Guillorme, 27, was placed on the injured list with a left groin strain on Aug. 15 and could return to the lineup next week when the team travels to Pittsburgh for three games against the Pirates.

On the season, Guillorme is batting. 283 with a .355 OBP and a 1.7 WAR.

When Guillorme returns, he and Eduardo Escobar will likely resume their platoon at third base.

On the pitching front, manager Buck Showalter indicated that if all continues to go well, Carlos Carrasco should be able to rejoin the Mets’ rotation over the weekend.

Carrasco left his start against the Braves with what was discovered to be a low-grade left oblique strain. He pitched the first two innings of the game before making his way slowly off the field while clutching his side.

Carrasco, 35, has a 3.92 ERA through 23 starts with a 1.30 WHIP in 126⅓ innings pitched. Before landing on the injured list, Carrasco was 5-0 with a 1.69 ERA in his last seven starts.

The returns of Guillorme and Carrasco will provide a nice boost for the team as they try to grind out the last four weeks of the season.
