Peter Alonso
New York Mets first base prospect Peter Alonso put his name on the radar with a strong season last year at Single-A St. Lucie.
The 23-year-old has followed that up with a white hot start to his 2018 season with Double-A Binghamton.
On Saturday night against the Erie Seawolves, Alonso launched his sixth homer of the year, a two-run shot in the third.
Over his last 10 games, Alonso is hitting a robust .400 with three home runs, all of which have come in his last three contests.
Altogether on the season, he has gone 26-for-67 with six long balls and 16 RBI and 14 walks to complement a .388/.494/.746 slash line.
Alonso has also improved his defense this season. On Thursday, Keith Law said this. “Alonso would be a top 100 prospect now (given some graduations and new looks at him) and I think he’s an above-average regular at least.”

Infielder Gavin Cecchini collected two hits for Triple-A Las Vegas on Saturday, including a triple, to raise his average on the year to .352. Cecchini is also hitting .381 in his last 10 games and 12 of his 25 hits this year are extra-base hits.
Chris Flexen allowed two earned runs in 5.2 innings with six strikeouts for Vegas as well, while Drew Smith picked up the save with three strikeouts in 1.1 innings.
Jeremy Vasquez walked on Saturday night for Single-A Columbia and has now reached base in 22 straight games.
Eric Hanhold threw two scoreless innings with three strikeouts on Saturday to pick up the save for Binghamton. He’s been good this year: 12.1 IP, 9 H, 3 ER, 3 BB, 16 K, 2.19 ERA.
Right-hander Matt Pobereyko tossed 1.2 scoreless innings on Saturday for Single-A St. Lucie to lower his ERA on the year to 1.74. He has allowed just two runs in 10.1 innings this year.
