There was a lot of baseball played on Sunday in the Mets organization, with both the Binghamton Rumble Ponies (Double-A) and the Brooklyn Cyclones (High-A) playing doubleheaders. The word “average” defined the day, as it has for much of the season across the minor league levels. In the six games played, all four levels combined went 3-3, with Triple-A Syracuse losing, both Double-A Binghamton and High-A Brooklyn splitting double headers, and Single-A St. Lucie winning.
As for player performances, top Mets prospect Jonah Tong struggled in his outing for Syracuse, raising his season ERA to 5.68, a troubling sign for the big league club, which may be in need of starting pitching sooner than later. A.J. Ewing continued to rip the cover off the baseball, going 2-for-5 on the day with a triple and two walks, further cementing his status as one of the most promising prospects in the organization.
