The Triple-A Syracuse Mets began their home-opening series against the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders, the New York Yankees’ Triple-A affiliate, on Tuesday.

The Mets offense could not keep up with Ismael Munguia and Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, as Syracuse dropped the first game of the set 6-2.

The Mets took a 2-1 lead in the third inning after Jakson Reetz and Donovan Walton both drove in runs, but SWB rallied to tie the game in the top of the fourth and never looked back. Powered by a three-hit performance by Munguia, the RailRiders have won two in a row to get back to .500. Munguia has opened the season with hits in all four games, going 8-for-17 with two doubles.

Walton and Reetz provided the only runs for the Mets, the latter notching his second extra-base hit of the season. Reetz spent the 2024 season in the San Francisco Giants organization, splitting time between the big leagues and Triple-A Sacramento.

Waddell was making his Mets organizational debut and did not fare well against the RailRiders lineup. He allowed nine baserunners through his 3 2/3 innings while giving up two runs. Hartwig surrendered a pair of unearned runs in the fifth while Reid-Foley had a successful season debut, striking out two batters in a clean seventh inning, 

Syracuse is back in action on Wednesday against the RailRiders at 1:05 p.m. ET. Dom Hamel, who finished last season with a 6.79 ERA across 27 outings for the team, will make his first start of the season.
