The Scranton/Wilkes-Barrer RailRiders blanked the Syracuse Mets 7-0 Thursday evening. RailRiders starter Will Warren (Yankees’ No. 7 prospect) quieted the Mets’ bats over five scoreless innings.

Rafael Ortega, 32, has reached base safely in all seven games with the Mets. He is batting .321 (9-for-28) with four extra-base hits, six RBIs, and four walks.

Third base prospect Mark Vientos went 0-for-2 drawing a pair of walks. The 23-year-old has an eight-game on-base streak since his return to Syracuse on June 21st. He is 9-for-30 with two homers, six RBIs, and a 1.037 OPS.

Ronny Mauricio‘s June swoon persists as he went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts. This month, he’s hitting .212/.272/.376 and a.648 OPS

Right-hander Tylor Megill made his first start for Syracuse since his demotion from the major league club. He looked great early on, retiring the first eight batters of the game but faltered in the fourth frame as the RailRiders broke it open for three runs against Megill. The 27-year-old threw 4 2/3 innings, surrendering five runs on six hits and three walks.

Relief pitcher Dennis Santana pitched a spotless ninth inning on 13 pitches while fanning one. In seven relief appearances this month, Santana is 0-1 with a 4.00 ERA, four saves, and 12 punch-outs across nine innings.

Hartford Yard Goats (30-39) 5, Binghamton Rumble Ponies (36-35) 4

The Binghamton Rumbles Ponies were four outs away from the win when they suffered a deflating loss, 5-4, Thursday night as Hartford Yard Goats third baseman Kyle Datres slugged the game-winning two-run homer in the eighth.

Yard Goats southpaw Joe Rock (Colorado Rockies 14th ranked prospect on MLB Pipeline) stifled the Rumble Ponies bats and racked up 12 strikeouts over 5 1/3 innings.

The bats finally woke up in the sixth inning and pushed across four runs, capped off by a two-run jack over the right field wall from Agustin Ruiz to give Binghamton a 4-3 lead. The home run was Ruiz’s ninth of the season. In his last seven games, the 23-year-old is 6-for-23 with two homers, six RBIs, and four walks.

Elite defender Branden Fryman committed a costly throwing error in the eighth, setting up Datres go-ahead home run. Fryman collected a hit in the contest and extended his hit streak to seven games. The 25-year-old is hitting .391 (9-for-23) during that span.

Dominic Hamel, the Mets’ third-round pick in the 2021 draft, has had an up-and-down year through 12 starts with Binghamton. He had a 1-2 record in four starts in June and posted a 7.02 ERA and a 1.50 WHIP over 16 2/3 innings entering last night’s contest.

The 24-year-old looked great through the first four-plus innings as he retired 13 of the first 15 batters. Hamel tossed six innings and allowed three runs on seven hits. He surrendered an RBI base knock in the fifth and a two-run blast in the sixth. The right-hander fanned nine, generating 17 whiffs on the evening, and didn’t allow a walk for the first time since May 21st. Hamel owns an 80/24 K/BB ratio across 61 2/3 innings.

Trey McLoughlin was charged with the blown save and the loss in the eighth after serving up the two-run homer. The 24-year-old allowed one hit and notched three strikeouts. McLoughlin has pitched for High-A Brooklyn and Double-A Binghamton and carries a combined 3-3 record, with a 1.86 ERA, one save, 40/8 K/BB ratio over 29 innings.

HIGH-A

The Cyclones got off to a quick start Thursday night as they scored three runs in the first inning. William Lugo launched a two-run homer, and with two outs, outfielder Omar De Los Santos drilled a two-bagger off the left field walk to drive in D’Andre Smith and extend the lead to 3-0.

Third baseman Lugo is on a mini power tear, 6-for-16 in his last five games, with three homers and five RBIs. The 21-year-old is hitting a mere .191/.281/.352 on the season.

Shortstop Junior Tilien swatted his first home run since his promotion to High-A Brooklyn as the Cyclones took a 4-1 lead in the second. The 20-year-old infielder was promoted earlier this week after posting a .251/.339/.417, a .756 OPS with 15 doubles, six home runs, and 32 RBIs with Low-A St. Lucie.

Catcher Kevin Parada singled in his final at-bat in the eighth to extend his hit streak to nine games. The 21-year-old is on fire at the plate and is batting .400 (14-for-35) with a double, two triples, three homers, and 10 RBIs.

Brooklyn’s starting pitcher Tyler Stuart faced off against Jersey Shore BlueClaws Thursday night. Stuart entered the contest with a 1.44 ERA, the best in the minors. He has also held opposing hitters to a .209 average. The Mets drafted Stuart out of Southern Mississippi in the 6th round of 2022. Stuart’s exceptional year continued as he spun another terrific outing. He allowed one run on four hits and issued a pair of walks through seven innings while recording only one strikeout. The 6-foot-9 righty improved to 3-0, lowering his ERA to 1.42, and holds a 79/22 K/BB ratio across 69 2/3 innings.

Lefty Quinn Brodey entered to protect a three-run lead in the final frame. Things looked shaky to begin the inning as Brodey walked the first two batters and brought up the tying run to the plate. The 27-year-old escaped the jam when he struck out the next two batters and recorded the final out to secure the win and collect his second save.

LOW-A

Dunedin Blue  Jays (35-36) 6, St. Lucie Mets (25-44) 4

BOX SCORE

The Dunedin Blue Jays defeated the St. Lucie Mets 6-4 Thursday evening with three runs late in the contest to break a 3-3 tie. The Mets lost for the 44th time this season.

In the second inning, trailing 3-0 with two outs, Yeral Martinez reached on a single, and Dyron Campos belted a double (106.8 EV) to bring in the first run for Binghamton. Luis Castillo followed with an RBI base knock to make it 3-2.

Wilfredo Lara tied the game with his ninth dinger of the year, landing 392 feet in the sixth inning. Lara leads the team with nine homers. He collected two more hits on the night and is 7-for-15 with three doubles, two homers, and three RBIs in his last four games.

In the ninth inning, Martinez recorded his second hit of the night when he smacked an RBI double. The 20-year-old is fourth on the team with 23 RBIs on the year. An alarming stat for Martinez is he struck out for the 55th time this season (34%) of his plate appearances.

Right-hander Christopher Vasquez was on the bump Thursday evening for St. Lucie. The 22-year-old from the Dominican Republic was making his third start of the year and first since April 27th. He permitted three runs on five hits and three walks in four innings.

Jean Calderon took the loss after lasting just 2/3 of an inning. He allowed three runs on two hits. The 22-year-old has a 6.32 ERA, 2.11 WHIP, and 19 walks in 15 2/3 innings.

The DSL Mets Orange were trailing 4-0 in the sixth inning when outfielder Jeffry Rosa belted a two-run shot to pull to within two. The 18-year-old is batting just .182 with three homers, seven RBIs, and a 1.107 OPS. He finished 1-for-2 and drew a pair of walks.

17-year-old Enderson Asencio was the lone Mets player to record a multi-hit game. He is hitting .192/.328/.327 with a homer and four RBIs.

Outfielder Jostyn Almonte broke a 2-2 tied when he clubbed his second dinger with two outs in the third inning. The 20-year-old went 2-for-4 and stole his sixth bag of the season. Through his first 14 games, Almonte leads all DSL Mets players on average (362), OBP (474), and OPS (1.006.)

The Mets built a 5-2 lead when Leyderman Ruiz lined a base knock in the fourth inning to lead off the frame. Ruiz swiped second base and later stole home on a double steal. In the fifth inning, Darius Cordero drew a walk leading off and advanced to third on two wild pitches. Vladi Gomez knocked him in with an RBI ground out.

Lucas Gordillo yielded two runs over three innings. He allowed three hits, one walk, and fanned four. The 20-year-old has a 2.70 ERA, a 24/ 4 K/BB ratio in 13 1/3 innings.
