Triple-A

Scranton Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (53-57) 4, Syracuse Mets (46-65) 2

BOX SCORE

The Mets managed just three hits on Saturday, but two of those three hits went for extra bases. Peraza had an RBI double to tie the game at one in the top of the fourth.

Mauricio picked up his 28th double of the year in the fifth and came around to score on a Baty RBI groundout. His 28 doubles are the seventh most in the International League.

  • RHP Justin Jarvis (0-3, 10.00 ERA): 3 1/3 IP, 3 ER, 4 H, BB, 4 K (45 of 74 pitches for strikes)
  • RHP Jose Chacin (7.50): 2 IP, 1 ER, 3 H, 2 K, HBP

It’s been a rough first couple of starts for Jarvis in Syracuse. The right-hander allowed a solo home run to Franchy Cordero in the third and an Austin Wells RBI double in the fourth (third run came around to score on a wild pitch). He has allowed three runs or more in five-straight starts since reaching Triple-A with the Brewers.

As for Chacin, the 26-year-old right-hander was making his first Triple-A appearance since the opening series of the year against Rochester.

Double-A

Binghamton Rumble Ponies (54-52) 4, Somerset Patriots (62-43) 0

BOX SCORE

The Rumble Ponies were able to break a scoreless tie in the top of the fifth when Senger hit a solo shot. The three hits he had on Saturday were a season-high.

Then, in the sixth, Jackson broke the game open with a three-run home run to center, his second of the series.  The 23-year-old has a hit in four of the five games in the series.

  • RHP Christian Scott (4-3, 2.67): 6 1/3 IP, 0 ER, 1 H, 5 K, HBP (65 of 94 pitches for strikes)
  • RHP Tyler Thomas (0.89): 2 2/3 IP, 0 ER, 0 H, 4 K

Scott allowed a leadoff double to Ben Rice to begin the game and he hit Rice with a pitch later in the contest, but outside of that, he was excellent. It is the third time this year that Scott has allowed only one hit in an outing of four or more innings. In addition, he has allowed two runs or fewer in five of his last six starts.

High-A

Aberdeen IronBirds (51-53) 8, Brooklyn Cyclones (53-53) 3

BOX SCORE

On a night where the Cyclones went 1-for-12 with runners in scoring position, Clifford helped the offense out with an two-run double in the bottom of the third after Aberdeen took an early 5-0 lead. The 20-year-old has had multiple hits in three of the last four games.

  • RHP Jace Beck (5-5, 3.77): 2 IP, 3 ER, 3 H, BB, 3 K, HBP (20 of 36 pitches for strikes)
  • RHP Benito Garcia (1.35): 5 IP, 1 R, 1 H, BB, 4 K, HBP (41 of 56 pitches for strikes)

Even though Aberdeen took the early lead, Garcia did a good job limiting the damage and keeping the Cyclones in the game. The only hit he allowed was a leadoff single in the fourth (scored on an error). Before Saturday, the 23-year-old had not gone more than 3 2/3 innings in any outing this year.

Low-A

Palm Beach Cardinals (56-48) 10, St. Lucie Mets (36-70) 7

BOX SCORE

It was a crazy night for St. Lucie’s offense as they did have 13 hits, but the team was 1-for-13 with runners in scoring position. Morabito had his second three-hit performance in the last five games and he has had at least one hit in seven of the nine games he has played in this month.

St. Lucie found themselves in a 5-0 hole early, but Hernandez and Villavicencio were able to go back-to-back in the second to cut the deficit to two. Hernandez’s second home run would come in the sixth.

  • RHP Jordan Geber (0-1, 13.50): 2 2/3 IP, 5 ER, 8 H, 2 K, WP (35 of 55 pitches for strikes)
  • RHP Luis A. Rodriguez (4.29): 3 1/3 IP, 2 ER, 2 H, BB, 2 K

The Mets’ pitching staff struggled all night to contain the Palm Beach offense and it’s been a rough series for them in general as they have allowed double-digit runs twice (37 runs in five games). Even though Palm Beach did not have a home run, they had four extra-base (three doubles) in the win.

Dominican Summer League

DSL Mets Blue

Earlier on Saturday, the DSL Mets Blue squad finished a suspended game from July 27 against the DSL Rockies and ended up losing the game on a walk-off balk in the bottom of the ninth, 10-9.

DSL Mets Blue (22-26) 3, DSL Rockies (27-19) 2

BOX SCORE

All three runs that the Mets scored in the originally scheduled game came off the bat of Ramirez. He began the day with an RBI triple in the first, had an RBI double in the third, and an RBI single in the fifth. The 18-year-old has a six-game hitting streak.

De Oleo came around to score all three times and he has a five-game hit streak of his own (.345/.387/.483 in 29 at-bats this month).

  • RHP Wellington Aracena (3-3, 3.77): 6 2/3 IP, 2 ER, 1 H, 3 BB, 6 K
  • RHP Anthony Crespo (first save): 1/3 IP, 0 ER, 1 H, HBP

Aracena nearly went the distance in this game. However, the Rockies were able to drive in both runs in the seventh on a double (two walks set up the inning). Nevertheless, Aracena looked like the pitcher who had a great start to the year as he was able to force nine groundball outs in his longest outing of the season.

DSL NYY Yankees (29-15) 20, DSL Mets Orange (19-28) 8

BOX SCORE

Castillo was able to have a career afternoon in the DSL. He drove in a run on an RBI single in the fourth and he came around to score four different times.

Rodriguez picked up another hit to give him at least one hit in six of the seven games that he’s played in since joining the Mets organization.

  • RHP Jose Chirinos (0-5, 4.62): 1 2/3 IP, 6 ER, 2 H, 3 BB, 4 K, WP, HBP

The Mets pitching staff ended up allowing 12 runs to the Yankees in the bottom of the second and as a team, the seven pitchers that appeared in the game had more walks (15) than strikeouts (14).
