Mets Minors Recap: Ronny Mauricio Homers, Jett Williams Has Big Game

Mauricio has a .893 OPS in July following a rough June that he posted a .620 OPS for the month. Veteran outfielder Rafael Ortega hit a walk-off two-run homer in the bottom of the ninth inning. Carlos Cortes and Michael Pérez were on base three times each in the game for Syracuse.

The Mets decided to call up 1B/3B/DH Mark Vientos from Triple-A Syracuse, with Starling Marte going on the injured list. Vientos has a 1.000 OPS this season in Syracuse.

The 23-year-old Lavender has 51 strikeouts and has allowed only 20 hits this season in 30 2/3 innings between Double-A and Triple-A.

One thing to keep in mind when looking at the OPS or ERA of a player in the International League this year is the fact that the league as a whole has an .802 OPS and 5.24 ERA.

The 24-year-old Hamel has struggled to put together a string of good outings most of the season and has a 1.42 WHIP in 76 innings. Ramos has a 2.90 ERA in 40 1/3 innings this season, and his ground ball rate is an extremely high 66%.

The 20-year-old Ramírez has struggled for most of the last two months, including a 531 OPS in July. Consuegra has a .903 OPS in six games since returning from the injured list.

Tidwell, Mets second round pick last year, has been tremendous over his last 11 starts: 58.1 IP, 35 H, 11 ER, 30 BB, 80 K, 1.70 ERA.

Gervase has the second-lowest ERA in minor league baseball (35 innings minimum) at 1.19; only Rangers right-hander Alex Speas has one lower at 1.00. Speas made his big league debut on Wednesday.

Williams, one of the Mets first round picks from last year, now has a .428 OPS on the season that ranks 14th out of 400 minor leaguers this year with at least 300 plate appearances. Jose Hernandez hit his fourth home run of the season for St. Lucie.

Coonrod was making his second rehab appearance with St. Lucie. He has missed all of the season after having a strong spring big league camp with the Mets. His fastball was up to 97 mph in the outing and he had five whiffs overall.
