Reno (61-56) 9, Las Vegas (58-59) 5   Box Score

Alonso’s hot streak continued, and last night he proved that he can do more than just hit dingers. He hit a two-run single in the seventh inning to bring the 51s within four, while also drawing two walks to bring his August slash line to .394/.474/.909, and that’s not including his 3-5 game on July 30th. His average, which reached a low point of .165 on July 18th, has risen all the way up to .253 with his sizzling bat as well as his OPS climbing above .900 after dipping below .700.

  • RHP Cody Martin (L, 3-4, 6.93 ERA): 5.0 IP, 7 H, 6 R, 0 BB, 6 K
  • LHP Buddy Baumann (1-0, 5.10 ERA): 1.1 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 0 BB, 0 K
  • RHP Tim Peterson (0-1, 3.48 ERA): 0.2 IP, H, R, 0 BB, 2 K
  • LHP Ian Krol (3-0, 2.83 ERA): 2.0 IP, H, 0 R, BB, 2 K

Martin continued his season-long mediocrity with a good K:BB ratio in this one, but six runs given up in five innings. Baumann’s season has gone from good, to bad, to ugly; he had a 1.29 ERA in April and May, a 5.40 ERA in June, and now owns a 9.92 ERA in July and August. His recent prolonged struggles after a brief rough stint in the Majors have brought his ERA as a 51 to 6.56, and he has given up nine runs in nine innings since the All-Star break. It is notable to point out, however, that his ERA in Las Vegas is 11.17, while his road ERA as a 51 is 3.29. Peterson finally gave up a run since being demoted, while Krol continued his very fine season.

Reading (56-60) 5, Binghamton (55-62) 2  Box Score

Binghamton struggled offensively in this outing as they were held to just two runs on seven hits. The offense was just 1-for-6 with runners in scoring position, so they also failed to take advantage of the few opportunities that they did have. Toffey continues to get on base at an incredible rate and now has an 11:8 BB:K ratio over his last 10 games (17:17 in 18 games total with Binghamton).

Kilome made his third start with the Mets organization and it was his best so far. Kilome struck out a season-high ten batters and didn’t allow a single run until he had two outs in the seventh inning. With a 2.95 ERA and 20:5 K:BB ratio in 18.1 innings with Binghamton, Kilome’s Mets career is certainly off to a promising start.

Clearwater (62-53) 4, St. Lucie (46-67) 3  Box Score

St. Lucie didn’t have a ton of success offensively in Friday’s game as they were held to three runs on five hits. Sanchez got the Mets on the board with a two run home run in the fourth inning. Sanchez’s six home runs this season are double his previous career high; he continues to have a bounce-back season offensively. Paez continues his second half success and is now hitting .295/.370/.487 since the Florida State League’s All-Star break.

Taylor started the game for St. Lucie and was pitching pretty well until he gave up a two-run home run in the sixth inning. This was just the fourth time in 17 games that Taylor has walked one batter or less. McGeorge has a 1.29 ERA with 18 strikeouts over his last 10 appearances.

Delmarva (58-55) 9, Columbia (52-61) 7  Box Score

The Fireflies had only six hits in the game, but still managed to score seven runs on the strength of a bases clearing double by Moreno and two home runs. Winaker got the Fireflies on the board with a solo home run in the first inning. Winaker has a nine game hitting streak, during which he is hitting .400/.417/.800 with three home runs.

  • RHP Yeizo Campos (L, 1-4, 4.23 ERA) 4.0 IP, 6 H, 7 ER, 3 BB, 3 K
  • LHP Aaron Ford (2-2, 2.53 ERA) 2.1 IP, 4 H, ER, BB, 4 K
  • RHP Darwin Ramos (3-3, 4.70 ERA) 2.2 IP, 3 H, ER, BB, 2 K

Campos made his sixth start of the season and it was his worst of the year as he went just four innings (his shortest outing since June) and allowed a season-high seven earned runs. Ford was making his first appearance since July and struck out 4 in 2.1 innings. He has only walked 2 batters in 21.2 innings in 2018.

Brooklyn (29-25) 9, Connecticut (23-27) 2  Box Score

Brooklyn’s offense had a big game as they racked up 13 hits and every player in the starting lineup reached base at least once. Cortes just keeps on hitting and, after a slow start to his pro career, he now has a 10-game hitting streak during which he is 16-for-40 with two home runs and 12 RBIs. Avant hit his first professional home run, a two run shot in the second inning that got Brooklyn on the board and started a 5-run, two-out rally.

Wilson was fantastic in this start as he struck out a career high 10 batters over five hitless innings. Wilson’s season had gotten off to a rough start, but he has completely turned it around recently. Over his last two starts, he has struck out 18 batters and walked only two in 12.0 scoreless innings. Hanhold pitched his third scoreless rehab appearance with Brooklyn in his return from an oblique injury. After giving up a walk-off hit in his last outing, Gilliam returned to his usual dominance and struck out the side in order. Gilliam now has 18 strikeouts in 9.2 innings pitched.

Danville (28-21) 8, Kingsport (25-24) 6  Box Score

Kingsport’s offense had an impressive game (as they seem to have every night), as they scored six runs on ten hits. Vientos had his third straight multi-hit game and now has 18 extra base hits in 42 games this season. Kelenic has been showing some signs of improvement over the last week, indicating that he may be adjusting to the Appalachian League after some early struggled.

  • RHP Oscar Rojas (L, 0-1, 6.75 ERA) 4.0 IP, 6 H, 4 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, K
  • RHP Luis Silva (0-0, 4.57 ERA) 2.0 IP, 3 H, 2 ER, 3 BB, 4 K
  • RHP Noah Nunez (1-2, 8.31 ERA) 1.0 IP, 2 H, ER, K

As great as Kingsport’s offense has been, the pitching has really held the team back from being a dominant team in the league. The Mets pitching staff has a 4.63 ERA on the season,

DSL Mets1 (38-21) 15, DSL Rockies (20-39) 4  Box Score

The Mets offense exploded for 15 runs in the blowout against the Rockies and averaged over three baserunners per inning for the game (14 hits, 11 walks, 3 errors, and 2 hit batters for 30 total baserunners). Hernandez continues his impressive power breakout, with three of his five home runs coming in the last four games. Valerio has had an outstanding season for a 17-year old and has turned it up to another level since being moved to the DSL Mets1. Since then, he has hit .471/.565/.569 in 13 games.

Diaz pitched five innings in a game for the first time in his career, but only stuck out one batter. Rodriguez has 29 strikeouts in 22.1 innings pitched this season.

DSL Mets2 (28-31) 6, DSL Tigers1 (27-32) 3  Box Score

The Mets had 13 hits in the game and actually had the chance to score more runs, but went just 2-for-15 with runenrs in scoring position.

Marcano hasn’t had a great debut season, but this start was solid and he struck out a career-high seven batters. Marcano doesn’t turn 17 until the end of August. Guzman hasn’t struck out many batters (only 17 in 33.2 innings(, but he has done an excellent job of limiting runs all year.
