Drew Gilbert had another impressive night for Binghamton, going 2-for-3 with two walks and a home run. Mark Vientos went 1-for-4 with two runs scored in his rehab assignment in Syracuse on Friday. The 23-year-old went on the injured list on August 16 for left wrist tendinitis.

TRIPLE-A: SYRACUSE 9, BUFFALO 7, BOX SCORE

Vientos had a solid night in Syracuse while making a rehab start at third base. He recorded a single in four at-bats and scored two runs. Mauricio reached base for an 18th consecutive game on Friday night, recording his 29th double of the season. Meanwhile, McIlwain continued his hot streak in Triple-A, hitting two home runs on Friday. His first in the seventh inning tied the game for Syracuse and the homer in the tenth walked it off. The 25-year-old has found a power stroke since being promoted and has four home runs in 19 at-bats.

Grant Hartwig allowed two runs on two walks and three hits. The right-hander was recently sent down by New York on August 18.

DOUBLE-A: NEW HAMPSHIRE 14, BINGHAMTON 8, BOX SCORE

Gilbert had another outstanding night for the Rumble Ponies. The Mets’ number two overall prospect (MLB.com) recorded two hits, walks, and one run in three at-bats, including his 16th home run of the season. Schwartz also homered in Binghamton’s loss, clubbing a grand slam in the second inning. Acuña, however, struggled again on Friday, going 0-for-4 with one walk. The top prospect has struggled since his trade to the Mets’ minor league system, recording a .238 batting average and .595 OPS in 21 games.

Hamel recorded six strikeouts in a solid outing for the Rumble Ponies. He has been a strikeout machine this season for Double-A, and now has 136 punchouts in 110 innings.

McLoughlin and Clenney both had rough outings, allowing 10 runs after Hamel held New Hampshire to only three in five innings. Clenney, however, was subject to an error by Jeremiah Jackson in the sixth inning with two outs, which allowed Steward Berroa to homer in the next at-bat.

HIGH-A: BROOKLYN 6, ASHEVILLE 5, BOX SCORE

Williams and Clifford both continued their torrid starts in Brooklyn. The two of them clubbed home runs in Brooklyn’s victory over Asheville and drove in three of the team’s six runs. Lugo also had a nice night for the Cyclones, going 2-for-4 with an RBI on Friday. Before being called up to High-A, Lugo hit 10 home runs in 84 games in St. Lucie.

Suarez struck out six batters and didn’t allow a run in six innings against Asheville. The right-hander holds a 5.08 ERA in 19 starts this season for Brooklyn, but boasts an 11.8 K/9.

Brooklyn’s win over Asheville brought them back into sole possession of first place in the SAL North.

LOW-A (GAME 1): DUNEDIN 6, ST. LUCIE 0, BOX SCORE

The St. Lucie Mets were shut out on five hits in the first game of their doubleheader on Friday. Lara recorded one of those hits and walked twice for St. Lucie.

Ovalles struck out six in five innings against the Dunedin Bluejays. The 20-year-old has a modest 9.1 K/9 rate in 18 starts, hopefully, this start was a building block for the 20-year-old.

LOW-A (GAME 2): DUNEDIN 15, ST. LUCIE 2, BOX SCORE

St. Lucie only managed two runs in the second game of their doubleheader after being shut out in game one. Paz was the only notable offensive player, recording two hits and an RBI against Dunedin.

Victorino’s first start in Low-A went about as bad as it could be. He walked five batters and allowed six runs before the first inning was over, resulting in Gilbert Gomez going to his bullpen early. The St. Lucie Mets never recorded and were swept in their doubleheader.
