Scranton/Wilkes-Barre (5-1) 15, Syracuse (1-5) 10  Box Score

Syracuse’s offense had a huge day on Sunday, putting up 10 runs on 12 hits. Every player in the starting lineup reached base at least twice except for Quinn Brodey. Hager has had an outstanding first week in Syracuse as he has recorded a hit in all six games this season. Fargas, who was on the major league taxi squad earlier in the week, homered as part of a three-hit affair in his second game of the season. Video of the home run can be seen below:

It was a dreadful day for the Syracuse pitching staff, which gave up at least one run in every inning except the eighth. Bruce Maxwell, a catcher by trade, who was called upon to get the final out of the ninth inning, was the only pitcher not to allow a run. Arodys Vizcaino made his first appearance of the season for Syracuse, giving up one home run and striking out two in one inning of work.

Binghamton (0-5) vs. Akron (5-0)

The Rumble Ponies’ game against the RubberDucks was postponed due to inclement weather. The date on which the game will be made up has not yet been announced. The Rumble Ponies will go for their first win of the season on Tuesday, May 11 at home against Altoona.

Brooklyn (2-3) vs. Asheville (3-2)

The Cyclones’ game against the Tourists was cancelled due to “a non-COVID related illness on one of the teams.” Brooklyn will begin a six-game series in Greenville on Tuesday, May 11.

The Cyclones did add outfielder Adrian Hernandez to their roster.

Jupiter (2-4) 7, St. Lucie (4-2) 5  Box Score

The Mets were held to just seven hits in the loss, but five of those hits came from the team’s top prospects. Crow-Armstrong and Alvarez, in particular, continued their absurdly hot full-season debuts, reaching base three times apiece. Both just 19 years old and featuring an OPS well north of 1.100, there is nothing not to like about their first week with St. Lucie, but what is perhaps most impressive is their plate discipline.

Crow-Armstrong has walked six times, compared to six strikeouts, in his first five professional games. Alvarez has been even more impressive, walking eight times while striking out just twice through six games. (Please note that the box scores say Alvarez was 1-for-2 with three walks, but St. Lucie recap says 1-for-3 with two walks).

Palmer has played all over the field early this season (second base, third base, and center field), although, notably, he has not yet received any time at his listed position of shortstop.

Suarez, often regarded as a potential under-the-radar pitching prospect in the Mets system, struggled in his second start of the season. Through his first two starts, Suarez has especially struggled with his control as he has walked seven batters in just 8.2 innings pitched.

Faith, a 6’6″ righty signed as a minor league free agent following last year’s abbreviated draft, received the loss in part because of poor defense, but has otherwise looked solid this season. He has eight strikeouts compared to just one walk over the first week of the season and, according to Ernest Dove, was hitting 95-96 MPH with his fastball on Sunday.
