The Thursday night minor league focus was on Triple-A Syracuse with Ronny Mauricio and Brett Baty on the infield together and Minor League Baseball’s ERA leader Tyler Stuart on the mound for Binghamton. Let’s just say it was a mixed bag of results.

Mauricio played second base after two games at third to accommodate the recently demoted Baty. Mauricio singled in the third inning and Baty knocked him in with an opposite field home run. Ritter followed with his Mets minor league-leading 23rd home run of the season.

Syracuse Mets newcomer Brandon McIlwain went 0-for-2 but walked three times and stole a base, and now has a 1.077 OPS in his first 8 Triple-A games. Shortstop Wyatt Young had two hits and knocked in three runs.

Carlos Cortes slugged a grand slam off former Met Zach Greene. Cortes now has a .956 OPS over his last 42 games.

  • RHP José Butto 5.2 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 4 K, Win, 17 whiffs, 5.96 ERA
  • RHP Tyson Miller 1.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K, (Mets system debut)
  • LHP Nate Lavender 2 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, 0 BB, 3 K, 3.07 ERA

Encouraging outing for Butto, given how much he has struggled this season in Triple-A. Miller was claimed off waivers from the Dodgers last week.

Double-A: Somerset 14, Binghamton 0, Box Score

It was a rough night for Binghamton as they collected only three hits and two walks. First baseman Mateo Gil had two hits and walked once for Binghamton.

  • RHP Tyler Stuart 1 IP, 7 H, 7 R (5 ER), 0 BB, 1 K, 3.81 ERA
  • LHP Daniel Juarez 2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K, 2.84 ERA
  • RHP Junior Santos 3 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K, 6.14 ERA

Stuart came into the game with a 1.70 ERA that led all of minor league baseball, and it was a bizarre evening for the right-hander. He also had a balk and two wild pitches on the night. The hard-throwing Santos was recently moved to the bullpen and hasn’t allowed an earned run in his last four appearances.

High-A: Aberdeen 4, Brooklyn 0, Box Score

Brooklyn didn’t have an extra-base hit in the game and struck out 10 times.

The 21-year-old Ramirez has a 2.57 ERA in his first two High-A starts and has walked only one batter in that time.

The Mets went 1-for-12 with runners in scoring position.

De La Cruz led Low-A with 19 whiffs on Thursday night. The left-hander had his fastball up to 96 mph and his slider got 10 whiffs on 16 swings in the game.

Dominican Summer League: Yankees 7, Mets Blue 6, Box Score

Outfielder Jostyn Almonte hit his fourth home run of the season and his OPS now sits at .930.
