Kay’s finally put together a decent start in his third opportunity at the Triple-A level. While he did allow two-out doubles in each of the first two innings, Kay was able to strand both guys on the bases within inning-ending swinging strikeouts. His lone big mistake came in the top of the third inning after a one-out walk when 1B Austin Listi jumped on a first-pitch fastball down the middle and pulled it over the left field wall for a two-run homer.

Continuing a game that was washed out after only half an inning back on April 14th, Gimenez drove in the go ahead with a home run to left field to give the Rumble Ponies a 2-1 lead.

Jannis came into as a “reliever” for David Peterson, who tossed a clean first inning back in April, and posted his best start of the 2019 season with a “complete game” to earn his third win of the season.

Gimenez carried over the momentum from the first game to reach base two more times in the second game with his third steal and third run scored of the day. Krizan provided the bulk of the Rumble Ponies offense with his two-RBI double in the bottom of the fifth inning to give the team a 3-0 lead.

The Rumble Ponies went with a bullpen only approach for the second game of the doubleheader and it worked to perfection. Zanghi, Ryan, and Villines combined for a seven inning, two-hit shutout with Zanghi needing only 36 pitches to toss a career-high four innings of work.

The Fireflies rallied from being down 6-2 with a six-run ninth inning to give them only their third win over the Lexington team this season having lost ten of the previous twelve games against them. Vientos continues his best month of the season with his fourth two-hit performance in the last five games along with his seventh RBI in the same time frame. Senger also had a strong day capped off by a go-ahead two-RBI double in the top of the ninth to give the team an 8-6 lead. Since the All-Star break, Senger is 9-for-17 with two home runs and eight RBI.

The Lexington team has really had SWR’s number this season as they racked up eight hits against him in their third game against him this season. On the year, SWR has allowed twelve runs (nine earned) on fourteen hits and six walks in 10.2 IP against Lexington. Thankfully, Hutchinson picked him up providing three-plus innings of solid work out of the pen and earning the win when the team rallied in the top of the ninth.

Kingsport racked up seven hits on the day but couldn’t drive runners in as they went 1-for-9 with runners in scoring position as a team.

Santos and Peden piggybacked for the second time this season but could not repeat the same success they had last time out. Santos allowed two runs on two doubles and a HBP in the first inning but settled in and faced the minimum the rest of the way.

Moreno was superb through the first three innings of the game allowing only one hit to the first ten batters he faced. He ran into a lot of trouble in the fourth inning though allowing two singles and walking two allowing a run to score before Figueroa came into the game and bailed him out of the bases loaded jam.
