The Scottsdale Scorpions lost 2-1 on Thursday against the Glendale Desert Dogs as they dropped their season record to 7-14.

The Scorpions got great pitching from two Mets minor league pitchers. Corey Oswalt got the start as he went five innings allowing two unearned runs on three hits while walking one and striking out three. Oswalt got the tough luck loss as he dropped to 2-1 in the AFL.

In the fifth, Oswalt allowed two unearned runs. He got the first two outs before allowing two singles and a walk to loaded the bases. With the bases loaded the third baseman Miguel Andujar made a throwing error that scored two.

Oswalt lowered his fall league ERA to 3.00 and has not allowed an earned run in his last three starts that spans 13 innings. Overall, Oswalt has pitched 18 innings allowing 16 hits and eight walks, while striking out 15.

Oswalt was replaced by Marcos Molina, who went three scoreless. Molina allowed just two hits and a walk, without recording a strikeout. Molina lowered his ERA to 4.26 in 12.2 innings pitched.

On the offensive side the Mets prospects were quiet. Tim Tebow played his first game since injuring his knee on a failed stolen base attempt. Tebow was the DH and went 0-3 and is now batting .135 (5-37). In the seventh Tebow came to bat with the bases loaded and two outs. He could not come through as he grounded out end the inning.

Matt Oberste went 0-2 as he is now 0-25 in the AFL. Oberste did reach base for the first time as he walked in the seventh.

Gavin Cecchini went 0-4 with a strikeout as the third hitter in the lineup. Cecchini is hitting .250/.347/.400 in eleven games for the Scottsdale Scorpions.

Scottsdale will welcome the Mesa Solar Sox at 9:35pm ET on Friday.
