Omaha 8, Las Vegas (68-57) 7

With the 51’s loss and an El Paso win, Las Vegas sees their division lead shrink to a half game with Dillon Gee taking the mound tonight in an important game. Dilson Herrera was 2-5 with two runs scored and his 7th homerun of the year for Las Vegas. He now has fourteen hits and eight runs scored in his last eight games. Brandon Nimmo returned to the lineup batting 8th going 1-3 with a walk, RBI, and his 5th AAA stolen base.

Darrell Ceciliani was 2-5 with a RBI, run scored, double, and two stolen bases. Eric Campbell went 3-5 with a RBI and three runs scored while batting and playing third. Kirk Nieuwenhuis was 3-5 with two RBI, a double, and his 2nd triple for Las Vegas. Jayce Boyd went 0-5 and Matt Reynolds was 0-4 slipping his average to .272 for the season. The 51’s made the game close scoring four runs off Joba Chamberlain in the 8th inning without him being able to record an out.

Matt Bowman struggled taking his 14th loss of the season after giving up four runs on twelve hits in four innings. Chase Huchingson allowed one unearned run in two innings. Scott Rice pitched a scoreless 9th inning working around two walks and struck out two. Zack Thornton got roughed up in his one inning of work allowing three runs on five hits. Box Score

Binghamton (66-54) 7, Richmond 4 Game One

Big news here is that Erik Goeddel pitched around a leadoff double to pitch a scoreless inning on 15 pitches with 9 for strikes. He got a popup, groundout, and a strikeout swinging to end the inning. Robert Gsellman had his first rough start in quite sometime allowing four runs over 5 innings on five hits, no walks, and three strikeouts. He gave up his first homerun since July 6th and just his fourth extra base hit since then. He did pick up the win though moving to 7-6 (13-6 overall) with a 3.17 ERA and 1.154 WHIP for Binghamton.

Paul Sewald picked up his 21st save in 22 chances this year with a scoreless 7th inning allowing a walk and striking out one. Through 43 innings this year Paul has given up eight earned runs on 29 hits and 8 walks compared to 45 strikeouts. He has a 0.98 WHIP and 1.81 ERA in 184 career innings since being drafted out of the 10th round in 2012.

T.J. Rivera went 3-3 with a double, run scored, and three RBI while playing third base. L.J. Mazzilli was 2-2 with a walk, RBI, run scored, and two doubles. He is hitting .375 with seven RBI and 4/3 BB/SO over his last ten games. Gavin Cecchini was 1-3 with a walk, 26th double, and two runs scored. Richmond 2, Binghamton (66-55) Game Two

The B’Mets bats fell asleep in the second game collecting four hits and had only two at bats (0-2) with runners in scoring position. Cecchini went 1-3, he scored the only run but fell to 2nd in the Eastern League in hitting with his .317 average. Mazzilli went 0-1 reaching via a walk and hit by pitch. Rainy Lara took his 5th AA loss allowing two runs on nine baserunners in five innings. Beck Wheeler and Adam Kolarek combined to pitch two scoreless innings. Box Score

St. Lucie (61-61) 6, Bradenton 5 Walk-Off

Outfielder Stefan Sabol stole the show in the David Wright rehab tour going 4-4 with four RBI and the walk-off blast in the bottom of the 9th over the batters eye in center field. St. Lucie announcer Adam MacDonald said it was the first time he had seen a ball hit to that spot since Wright did it during Spring Training this year. Here is video of the homerun. David Wright finished the game going 2-5 with two runs scored but struck out looking with runners on 2nd and 3rd with two outs in the bottom of the 8th.

Wright had a third single robbed in the 7th inning by a good play up the middle by the Bradenton second basemen. Wright had three chances in the field, he made all three successfully including two ground balls and a sacrifice bunt. The play on the bunt was one of his patented terrific bare-handed plays.  Matt Oberste got the benefit of hitting behind Wright and went 3-5 with his 19th double, 56th RBI with a run scored.

Amed Rosario was 2-4, he has struck out only four times in his last ten games. Jhoan Urena was 1-4 with a double and a run scored. Kyle Johnson continued to struggle in his rehab assignment going 0-3 with a strikeout and walk. Jeff McNeil had a rare bad night at the plate going 0-4 with three strikeouts, he did score a run after getting hit by a pitch. Dominic Smith had the night off.

Robert Coles gave up an inherited runner in the 8th inning but redeemed himself by pitching a scoreless 9th to pick up his 5th win of the year. Kevin McGowan started the game going 6 innings allowing three runs on eight hits while striking out two compared to zero walks. Box Score

Brooklyn (26-30) 3, Lowell 1

Tyler Badamo pitched a fantastic game needing only 64 pitches (43 strikes) to get through 6 innings of one-run ball on two hits while striking out five and walking nobody. He improved to 3-5 with a 3.53 ERA and his WHIP to 0.96 for the year. Mets 13th round pick P.J. Conlon struck out the side in a perfect 8th inning, in 13 pro innings he has allowed zero runs on only four hits and one walk to go along with 18 strikeouts.

The Cyclones had just two hits with Vinny Siena collecting half of them going 2-4 with a two-run triple and scored a run. David Thompson continued his recent struggles going 0-2 with a walk and two strikeouts. Jeffrey Diehl had a rough night out of the cleanup spot going 0-4 with the golden sombrero. Box Score

GCL Marlins 6, GCL Mets (25-26) 3 

Walter Rasquin was the only Met to get multiple hits going 2-4 and raising his average to .269 while extending his hitting streak to 6 games. Ricardo Cespedes was 1-5 with a RBI and his 7th stolen base of the year. Desmond Lindsay was 1-4 hitting out of the fifth spot in the lineup. Box Score
