El Paso 15, Las Vegas (30-27) 8

Las Vegas scored four 1st inning runs but the 51’s pitching got knocked around giving up twenty-two hits and five walks and lost for the 11th time in their last 12 games. Matthew Bowman continued his rough year pitching 4 innings giving up six runs on ten hits and two walks while striking out only one hitter. Chase Bradford went 1.2 innings giving up three runs on six hits while striking out two. The 51’s closed the gap to 9-7 scoring two runs in the bottom of the 7th before Jon Velasquez imploded in the 8th. Velasquez gave up six runs on six hits and a walk in his only inning.

Travis Taijeron was just 5-25 with one RBI over his last 9 games before busting out last night with two homeruns and four RBI’s. Jayce Boyd was 2-4 with his 1st AAA double, a walk, and also scored two runs. Matt Reynolds was 1-4 with two RBI’s to extend his hitting streak to 7 games, knocking in 9 runs in that span. Wilfredo Tovar was 1-4 with walk, run scored and two stolen bases giving him 14 on the season. Box Score

Reading 14, Binghamton (27-29) 5

Seth Lugo had his shortest start of the pitching only 5 innings allowing nine runs(six earned) on eight hits, HBP, three walks while striking out four. The loss moved Lugo to 2-3 with a 3.62 ERA while his batting average against went up to .253 for the year. The B’Mets were still in the game before Adam Kolarek gave up four in in the 8th inning while Paul Sewald gave up a solo homerun to J.P. Crawford in the 9th.

Michael Conforto was 3-4 with his first AA homerun off left hander Tom Windle and also had his 4th double with Binghamton. In 8 games with Binghamton he is hitting .429/.543/.750 with 6 extra base hits and 8 RBI’s. Here is the video of Conforto’s first HR, eye level fastball to CF. Gavin Cecchini was 1-4 with a run scored, walk, and his 24th RBI of the season. L.J. Mazzilli was 1-4 with a double for his AA hit but also had his first error as well while playing 2nd base. Box Score

Binghamton has the day off

St. Lucie had the day off on Sunday. The Mets play tonight in Daytona with Rob Whalen (2-3, 3.22) on the mound at 7:05

Savannah 3 (30-27) Greenville 1

Brad Wieck was fantastic in what I hope isn’t his last start in the Mets system (rumored to be PTBNL in Alex Torres deal} going 7 innings giving up just one run on eight hits and one walk while striking out ten. The lefty leads the South Atlantic League in strikeouts with 74 in only 56 innings of work with his ERA down to 3.21. David Roseboom pitched a scoreless 8th inning giving up two hits while striking out one. Boom now has a 1.40 ERA, 0.94 WHIP, and the league is hitting a lowly .181 against him. Jimmy Duff pitched a clean 9th inning to register his 4th save of the year for the Sand Gnats.

Tomas Nido paced the offense for Savannah going 2-3 with his first triple of the year and knocked in two runs giving him 17 on the season. Nido has been hot lately going 12-36 with 2 HR’s and 11 RBI’s over the last ten games. Jonathan Johnson was 2-4 with his 9th double, he is now 2nd in SAL in average (.324) and on base percentage (.410). Eudor Garcia was 1-3 with a walk and a run scored, the 2014 4th rounder is hitting .306/.346/.427 on the year. Wuilmer Becerra took an 0-4 but is still hitting .450 over his last 10 games with 2 HR’s and 10 RBI’s lifting his slash line for the year to .292/.338/.513. Box Score
