gabriel ynoa

Las Vegas was off last night with the Pacific Coast League Homerun Derby competition being held, without Travis Taijeron surprisingly being included. The AAA All-Star game is Wednesday at 10 ET and will be televised on MLB Network. Darin Gorski was named the PCL pitcher of the week, going 7 innings giving up just one unearned run on four hits and zero walks while striking out eleven hitters.

Binghamton (47-42) 7, Portland 2

Gabriel Ynoa allowed three singles in the first four batters of the game before finding his control and completely dominating the Sea Dogs for the next 6 innings. Ynoa retired 17 in a row at until Sam Travis led off the 7th inning with a single. He also threw 18 straight first pitch strikes which was snapped in the 6th inning on a pitch that statcast in the press box said was almost right down the middle.

Ynoa gave up one run on fours hit while striking out five and walking no one. He was throwing his fastball at 92-93 most of the day, a sharp slider, and his usually strong changeup. He got the Sea Dogs to ground out nine times and after the first inning very few Portland hitters were able to get there barrel on the ball. He worked out of a jam in his last inning that was created by L.J. Mazzilli booting a taylor-made double play.

After his start on June 10th Ynoas’ ERA had climbed to 5.72, yesterdays outing brought it down to 3.87 for the year and improved his record to 6-6. He has also lowered his WHIP to a sparkling 1.14 and has walked just 20 batters all year in 102.1 innings, the league hitting .248 against Ynoa. Over his last nine starts he has failed to go atleast 6 innings once and has walked three batters in that span.

Adam Kolarek had his nine straight scoreless appearances streak ended when he allowed an unearned run in the 8th inning. He did strike out two and has looked much better since dropping down his arm angle.

Josh Smoker came into pitch the 9th inning and woke up the radar gun hitting 95-96 on most of his fastballs while dropping his splitter in at 80 MPH. He allowed one single but struck out two including the final batter of the game on a 97.7 MPH fastball. In his last 10 appearances he has pitched 14.1 innings allowing only one run while striking out 17. In 31 innings over three teams this year he has struck out 39 batters while holding his opponents to a .210 average. I would bet we see him later in the season ala Dario Alvarez last year.

Each hitter in the Binghamton lineup had a base hit as the Mets finished off the 4-game sweep of the Sea Dogs, they were 10-0 this year in Portland and have won 12 straight there reaching back to last years playoffs. Gavin Cecchini was 1-4 with a walk, two runs scored, and his 18th double of the season. In four games in Portland he was 5-14 with seven walks and only one strikeout which was yesterday and statcast said was 5 inches inside.

Aderlin Rodriguez was 2-5 with his 13th double, run scored, and his 34th RBI of the year. Joe Benson was 2-4 with a walk while Dustin Lawley was 1-4 his 18th double and two RBI. Mazzilli had just one hit but it was a 2-run double and here is the video of it. It was a light scouting day in Portland with only two on hand without the Giants or Rays scouts there. Both the scouts got there just at gametime for the noon start so I was unable to bend their ear at all. Box Score

On Wednesday the Eastern League All-Star Game is going to be in Portland and I have been lucky enough to get credentials for the game. Six Binghamton players are on the roster including Gavin Cecchini, Brandon Nimmo, Josh Rodriguez, and Dario Alvarez who will be the four at the game. Paul Sewald is playing at the Pan Am Games and Luis Cessa is now in Las Vegas. Rodriguez will also be participating in the Homerun Debry which will start at 5 before the game. The game will be televised on NESN with a scheduled start of 7:20.

St. Lucie (46-43) 5, Lakeland 3

Casey Meisner moved to 3-0 in four starts since being promoted to St. Lucie thanks to 6 scoreless innings last night. He walked three, gave up four hits, and struck out three while lowering his St. Lucie ERA to 2.16. Overall this year Casey is 10-2 with 2.14 ERA, 1.08 WHIP, and holding opponents to a .217 AVG while striking out 80 over 101 innings.

Kelly Secrest pitched two perfect innings of relief striking out two, he has given up only 28 hits in 38.1 innings this season while sporting a 2.82 ERA. Julian Hilario gave up three runs on two hits and a walk, he was able to record only one out in the 9th inning before being taken out. Kyle Regnault picked up his 2nd save and lowered his season ERA to 1.95 but allowed two inherited runners score.

Amed Rosario went 3-4 with his 17th double and 5th triple of the year finishing a homerun short of the cycle. Amed raised his slash line for the year to .270/.312/.359 with 21 RBI, 33 runs scored, and 11 steals.

Jeff McNeil  was 2-5 with his 13th double, 5th triple, run scored, and knocked in two giving him 25 RBI. He is still leading the Florida State League in hitting at .320 and I would expect to see him in Binghamton after the All-Star break. Matt Oberste and Phillip Evans were both 2-4 with a RBI while Dominic Smith had a rare 0-4 night. Box Score

Aberdeen 2, Brooklyn (15-8) 0

Starter Gaby Almonte continued his good start to the year but suffered his 2nd loss of the season after going 7 innings giving up two runs on four hits, zero walks, and struck out three. He lowered his ERA to 3.07 and WHIP to 1.09, he has given up only four earned runs over his last 4 starts (24.1 innings).

P.J. Conlon pitched a perfect 8th inning with a strikeout, he now has 5 scoreless innings to start his career and has allowed just two baserunners (both hits). Seventh round pick Corey Taylor pitched the 9th giving up two hits with two strikeouts while extending his scoreless streak to start his career to 7 innings.

Branden Kaupe had half the Cyclones hits going 2-3 raising his average for the year to .212. Catcher Manuel Hilario was 1-3 bringing his average up to .100 on the season. Vinny Siena was 1-4, he has now hit safely in 20 of 22 pro games since the Mets selected him in the 14th round this year. David Thompson was 0-3 with a walk and has seen his average drop down to .254 in in 17 games, he has hit just .171 over his last 10 games. Box Score

GCL Cardinals 2, GCL Mets (9-10) 1

The Mets had a rough game committing as many errors (4) as they had base hits but strong pitching kept them in the game. Jhoan Urena was playing in his 3rd rehab game and went 1-3 with a solo homerun. The other three hits were singles by Ali Sanchez, Jose Miguel Medina, and Cecilio Aybar. Ivan Wilson was 0-1 with a walk, HBP, and got picked off first base but did not strikeout for the first time this year.

Anthony Chavez made his pitching debut after being an infielder in the Mets system for the last 5 seasons and was the tough luck loser giving up one unearned run in 1.1 innings. Gabriel Llanes followed him with two scoreless innings giving up only a walk and struck out one. Box Score

DSL Cubs 4, DSL Mets2 (23-15) 3 Box Score

Nicolas Debora started for the Mets pitching 5 scoreless giving up four hits and a walk while striking out five lowering his ERA to 0.86 in 42 innings this year. He was also named to the DSL All-Star game roster yesterday as well. Outfielder Grabiel Jimenez was 0-4 on the day lowering his average to .313 but was named to the DSL All-Star roster.

DSL Rockies 7, DSL Mets1 (20-18) Box Score

Domingo Martinez was 0-3 on the day, he is hitting .297/.331/.372 with 19 RBI and 19 runs scored which was good enough to get him on the DSL All-Star Game roster.
