The Mets are interested in 18 year-old Cuban left–handed pitcher Osvaldo Hernandez, reports MLB.com’s Jesse Sanchez.

Hernandez has been declared a free agent and can sign with any team he wishes. The other teams Sanchez reports to be interested ar the Padres, Reds. Astros, Braves, Rangers, and Red Sox.

According to Sanchez, Hernandez’s fastball currently ranges from 92 to 94 miles per hour, impressive for his age.

The Mets have stayed out of the blossoming Cuban market, but have spent somewhat heavily in recent years on other international signings.

In 2015, the Mets dropped $2.7 million between two top international players: shortstop Gregory Guerrero and shortstop Andres Gimenez.
