Prior to Monday night’s game against the St. Louis Cardinals, Mets manager Terry Collins spoke about pitchers Noah Syndergaard and Matt Harvey, who each began throwing programs yesterday.

Syndergaard, who has been out since May 1 with a torn lat said he feels “great” after tossing the ball.

“I’m itching to get back out there. I’m ready to roll,” Syndergaard said. “From what I felt like today, it was great. I feel like I could get on the mound tomorrow, but I know that’s definitely not the smartest thing to do.”

Harvey, who threw from 65-70 feet with Syndergaard and has been on the disabled list since June 16, has been working back from an injury to his right scapula, says he’s felt good for weeks.

“I’m trying to get the strength back. Haven’t really had any pain since a few days after I got the PRP injection,” Harvey said. “You are always thinking ahead to how you are going to feel the first time out there throwing and it felt really good.”

The righty went on to say that he blames himself for landing on the DL.

“It was pretty uncomfortable for a while,” Harvey said. “So I think me wanting to be out there as much as I possibly can and fighting through some uncomfortable times, it’s my fault for doing that.”

Harvey was 4-3 with a 5.25 ERA in 13 starts on the year when he went down with the injury.

I should have said a lot more earlier and maybe I would have missed a start or two here or there. But wanting to be out there more and not miss any more time, I kind of pushed through it. And then, obviously, it didn’t go well,” he continued.

There is still no timetable set for either one of their returns.

In addition to Syndergaard and Harvey, Neil Walker started running on Monday as well.

“He was running today for the first time,” Collins said. “There were good signs. He said the warmer it got, the better he felt. Obviously the big test will be, when he cools down, is to see where he is tomorrow.”

“He took the brace, the sleeve off for the first time. So those are all real positives. He’s going to take some ground balls later, we’ll see where he is. We’re hoping for some real strides this week and maybe we can get him in some games this weekend,” he concluded.

Walker has been out since June with a partially torn hamstring.
