Shaun Marcum

So much for those dreams of an 8-game winning streak… The Mets lost the opener of their three game series with the Marlins by the score of 5-1 tonight in Miami.

Shaun Marcum started and was in search of his first win of the season. But after cruising through six innings and matching zeroes with Marlins starter Jacob Turner, the veteran righthander ran into trouble in the seventh inning and allowed four Miami runs to cross the plate. Not good. In all he lasted 6.2 innings and let up seven hits, two walks and struck out four. His ERA rises to 5.71 for the season while his record falls to 0-6.

Not much doing offensively for the Mets as all they could muster was one late run on an RBI double by Daniel Murphy, his 18th of the season. He had two hits in the game and is now batting .304.

Omar Quintanilla had a pair of hits, but also committed his second error in two games since joining the Mets. David Wright went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts.

That’s all she wrote… The five game winning streak comes to an end against the Mighty Marlins. <cough, cough> The Mets are the only team the Marlins have a winning record against this season.

The Mets will pick themselves up and try again tomorrow as Collin McHugh makes his first major league start of the season. He will oppose Marlins rookie Jose Fernandez. First pitch is at 4:10 pm.
