The Mets have hired long-time Baseball Prospectus analyst Russell Carleton to be part of their analytics department. Carleton also published his book, The Shift: The Next Evolution in Baseball Thinking.

Carleton, graduate of DePaul University, previously worked for the Cleveland Indians as an analytics consultant from 2010 to 2012.  He has been a writer at BP since 2007.

The details of exactly what he will be doing for the team have yet to be worked out according to Carleton on the Effectively Wild podcast (he starts at 21:45). He did say he was approached by Adam Guttridge, the Mets new assistant general manager.

Carleton joins Guttridge, Jared Banner (executive director of player development), Allard Baird (VP/assistant GM of scouting & player development), and Mike Wickham (advanced scout & replay coordinator) as new hires this offseason under young GM Brodie Van Wagenen.
